MagicCon 4 | Vortrag | Von der Idee zum Buch | by Mary Cronos

MagicCon 4 | Vortrag | Von der Idee zum Buch | by Mary Cronos

How does an idea become a book?

One thing is certain: the idea must be as thick as a fist behind the ears, because it has to endure a lot: Changes, doubts, criticism, stress, loss of motivation. So whether an idea becomes a book depends first and foremost on the idea itself. Is it good enough to keep us on our toes? Because the road to the book in your hand is a long one.

During this workshop hour Mary Cronos wants to take you on a journey in a hurry: On the journey from the idea to the book. They talk about how to start writing, what makes a good manuscript, how to publish it, and what are the advantages and disadvantages. We will also talk about what pitches, exposés and reading samples are and what is important. And you will notice that this is by no means the end of the story. The outer and inner “prettiest” (also called cover design and editing) will be discussed as well as the question of the right release date. And when it’s almost time – the book is already within reach – the question of distribution channels (book trade vs. Amazon, ebook vs. print) and advertising (merchandise, networks and readings) arises.

Since Mary Cronos herself is a hybrid author (agency and publisher, but also self-publishing and small publisher), she can show you the different possibilities that are available today with their advantages and disadvantages.
