MagicCon 7 | Vortrag | Vampire, also Twilight? Nein!
Vampires are back! In series and films, but also increasingly in literature, more bloodsuckers are appearing again. Most people probably think of the well-known Twilight or Vampire Diaries fandoms when they think of vampires these days, but have you ever wondered where the idea for vampires came from in the first place? Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” is considered to be the first vampire novel ever, but that’s not quite true. And the “classic vampire image” from Stoker’s “Dracula” is totally different from the “new-fangled vampires” that appear in Twilight . If you then add Nosferatu to the mix, you have three completely different types of vampire. Or are there perhaps more parallels than you might initially think?
In this lecture, we want to take a closer look at the different vampire types. There will even be a short digression about the “historical vampire” to then compare how vampires have been adapted and polished up in literature, films and series in recent years. True to the motto: Instagram vs. reality.
Lecturer: Jenny Heyer
Duration: 60 min - The Lecture will be held in: germanYou may know Jenny Heyer as one of the three faces of HIPSTERFANGIRLFASHION. That means you've probably seen her in all kinds of costumes from all kinds of fandoms at conventions, or listened to one or two of HIPSTERFANGIRLFASHION's lectures on cosplay or wig styling at MagicCon.
But do you know what Jenny loves at least as much as cosplay? Vampires! Yes, she loves them so much that she even wrote her Bachelor's thesis in German Studies on vampires in literature (mainly because she wanted to take Twilight apart), and was quite fascinated by the fact that there are even proper reference books on the subject.
