MagicCon 7 | Workshop | 3D-Druck für dein Cosplay

The workshop “3D printed – Individual parts for your cosplay” is aimed at all those who are interested in 3D printing and want to include it in their repertoire for costume construction, or have already done so and are looking for tips and tricks for the application.

From making a 3D model to post-processing to the finished piece, each step of the process will be covered individually and explained in detail using a variety of examples brought along. I also go into the different types of 3D printing, such as filament and resin printing, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages as well as suitable areas of application. My workshops are interactive and questions from participants are encouraged and will be answered directly.

The workshop is not only suitable for newcomers to this field, but is also aimed at experienced users. As a further highlight, a live demonstration of 3D printing is also planned, in addition to the sample pieces brought along.

My name is Stefan Ulrich and I have been working as an artist under the name RandomDesign in the field of case modding and prop making since 2015. After working in Michigan, USA for five years, I came back to Germany last year and now have my workshop in Cologne. My work focuses on designing and building unique computer cases in collaboration with companies such as Intel, Nvidia and Square Enix. I have also worked with Marvel to create computers for Marvel's Avengers. My work has been presented at numerous international events such as gamescom in Cologne, computex in Taipei and CES in Las Vegas. Thematically, my projects are mostly based on films and video games. For example, I have built a 1.80 m long T-70 X-Wing from Star Wars, as well as a detailed ED-209 from Robocop and a Dalek from Doctor Who. Prop making is another part of my work. Here I mainly build props for cosplays and smaller film projects. 3D modeling, printing and molding with the help of silicone molds and casting resins are essential techniques in my work.
