MagicCon 7 | Workshop | Cosplay Nähen für Anfänger
The Cosplay Sewing for Beginners workshop is primarily about losing the fear of sewing yourself. Anyone can sew, and you don’t have to learn the sewing lexicon by heart.
You can get very far with simple tools. I address the following question:
- What must the sewing machines be able to do?
- Which fabrics are suitable?
- Where can I get patterns?
- How do I adapt a pattern?
I use a costume to illustrate the production process, including the ideas and thoughts behind it. What avoidable missteps there were and why you should simply make mistakes.
Sewing is like playing the piano: you can make a lot of mistakes, but it’s not far to Pour Elise.
If you want, you can bring your own problem bear and we will look for a solution.
Questions can be asked at any time and afterwards. You can also talk to me at MagicCon at any time.
Workshop leader: Mel Grebing

Mel Grebing is an amateur cosplayer, non-binary and prefers they/them pronouns, but is used to she/her and doesn't make a fuss about it.
They started sewing costumes in 2019 without any previous knowledge. The trousers for the first costume (Arihnda Pryce) were made with the help of a friend. The tunic was the first solo flight, including adapting the pattern. This was followed by an Aziraphael from Good Omens, of which only the jacvke and vest were sewn. With two Jaskier costumes from the series, things got more sophisticated and the Stede Bonnet from Our Flag Means Death is the most elaborate costume to date.
Raphael from Baldur's Gate 3 is to be finished for MagicCon 7.
