MagicCon 5 | Vortrag | Politik in Harry Potter | Sina & Julia

Have you ever wondered how the Minister of Magic is appointed? How the tickets for the grandstand at the Quidditch World Cup are donated and why Dolores Umbridge was allowed to stay in the Ministry for so long?

The Politics in Harry Potter lecture looks at the structures and institutions of the magical world and how they work. We ask ourselves questions about the Ministry of Magic like: Who is responsible when it rains in an office, how the staff of the Department of Mysteries successfully ignored the closure of their own department, and what powers the Wizarding Gamot has (there are many). But we also talk about the International Association of Wizards and freedom of the press. It will be noticeable that the roles of women’s rights and corruption are very important in the magical world.

The Harry Potter books and the Fantastic Beasts movies will be taken as a basis, but also English history and politics. We look at the wizarding world from a new perspective and question the activities of Arthur Weasley, Lucius Malfoy and Rufus Scrimgeour.

Lecturer: Sina, Julia
Duration: 60 min  -  The Lecture will be held in: german
Sina and Julia are two Ravenclaw sisters. They both developed a great love for fantasy at a very early age. They then lost their hearts hopelessly to Harry Potter.

The fact of being sisters has many advantages here. Among them is not only access to twice the amount of books (which, when they moved out, meant that the two of them now own four editions of the Harry Potter series together), but also the opportunity to carry out a wide variety of projects. These include memorizing the "Sorting Hat" songs, prophecies and sayings from the Harry Potter books, listing and sorting all known spells from the universe, and turning the basement into a paradise for all fantasy nerds.

The biggest project so far is a complete family tree of the Harry Potter world. In the Muggle world, Sina and Julia are studying Chemistry and International Relations.
