MagicCon 4 | Vortrag | Die wunderbare Welt der Magie | by Dr. Christian Weichmann

Comparison of different types of magic in the literature

Swish and weave, formae, canalization, spiritual journey, divine intervention, extended communication or just storytelling…

So far there are no real-world magicians who can explain their abilities other than with tricks. Authors who want to use magic in their books must therefore consider how they want to present it or even justify it. Accordingly, there are many approaches. Too many to present in a single lecture. Therefore, only a few selected ones are presented here.

In the lecture The wonderful world of Magic by Dr. Christian Weichmann on MagicCon 7 their similarities and differences are discussed. For example, what magic can and cannot do. Or how these effects are achieved, or what it costs the magician. Because each of these species has its advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand they are different for the magician in history, on the other hand they are different for the author, who can use them for his story. In the case of longer series, however, the restrictions can of course also lead to difficulties, which must either be considered from the outset or circumvented afterwards.

Lecturer: Dr. Christian Weichmann
Duration: 60 min  -  The Lecture will be held in: german
Dr. Christian Weichmann has been a Tolkien and Fantasy reader for a long time. Soon after its foundation he joined the German Tolkien Society. In this society he was a member of the board for a long time. And even now he still represents them again and again as a lecturer or quiz master at events.
