In Tolkien’s world called Miruvóre, it is given to the companions as a farewell from Lorien. In our country this drink is known as mead, a sweet yellowish drink made from honey and mixed with various fruit juices to taste.
Ideal for giving as a gift or for social occasions. Produced by the process of anaerobic fermentation, glucose is converted into ethanol and carbon dioxide with the help of yeast. But enough of the theory! In the basic course to make mead yourself you will learn which honey is recommended, which yeast you need and what you have to pay attention to so that you can start directly with your own production.

I, Kai Sören Sopha, have been a member of the Deutsche Tolkien Gesellschaft since about 2009 and took a basic mead course myself in 2010. It then took only a study of biotechnology between 2012 and 2016 and a worldwide pandemic until I started to produce my own mead in 2020.
So far only as a silent helper in the background at various DTG events, this year I try to pass on my interest of mead making.
Born in Bremen, it has always driven me further south and since 2021 Bonn is my adopted home.
