Where should I sleep?
What can I experience on site?
How do I get to hall H?
What should I wear?

I have been attending conventions in Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands since I was 16 years old. For me, SDCC (San Diego Comic Con International) was always THE convention I wanted to attend once in my life. After four years of futile waiting in the virtual waiting room and the disappointment of not getting a ticket again, it was finally time in October 2018 – there were tickets for all days + Preview Night in my shopping cart. As soon as the order was sent, I was confronted with planning my trip as cheaply as possible. The fact that I would travel alone made the whole thing even more exciting.

The lecture does not only contain my personal experiences, which I will tell with moving pictures and photos, it should also give interested Convisitors the opportunity to ask their very personal questions. Since I myself watched countless videos before the convention, visited Facebook groups and absorbed all the information I could get hold of, I can well imagine how you feel when you are faced with the mammoth task of “Survive SDCC!”.

Ich, Mareike, 32 Jahre, bin im Ruhrgebiet geboren, wohne aktuell in Leverkusen und kann behaupten, die Hälfte meines Lebens mit Conventionbesuchen und dem Nähen von Kostümen verbracht zu haben. Meine erste Con war mit 16 die Ring*Con 2003, seitdem habe ich fast keine einzige dieser Veranstaltungen verpasst. Ich bin gelernte Bibliotheksfachangestellte und habe einen Master in römischer und frühgeschichtlicher Archäologie.

Ich bin ein großer Film- und Serienfan, was heutzutage, Dank Netflix, jeder von sich behaupten kann, habe ein großes Faible für die Archäologie des Rheinlands, für’s Reisen und Entdecken und besuche jedes Jahr diverse Conventions, weil ich die Fangemeinde großartig finde, meine Kostüme tragen und mich mit Gleichgesinnten austauschen möchte. Der Autausch, das Weitergeben von Tipps und Erfahrungswerten ist für mich in diesem Hobby und im Bereich Conventions und Cosplay besonders wichtig. Es spart nicht nur enorm viel Zeit, sondern auch Mühe und Arbeit im Internet nach den richtigen Infos zu schauen, sich unzählige Berichte durchlesen zu müssen und es nimmt die Angst, falsche Entscheidungen zu treffen.
