MagicCon 3 | Workshop | Tengwar - Elbische Schrift

MagicCon 3 | Workshop | Tengwar - Elbische Schrift

Tolkien developed his own writing system for his Elves. During the history of Middle-earth, this writing system was used and adapted by many different peoples, as we can see in the Moria gate inscription, the Book of Moria, and also the inscription on the ring itself. The workshop Tengwar – Elvish script gives an overview how Tengwar work, about the different ways of writing with them, and explains examples from the books. This forms a basis to continue learning on one’s own.

Workshop leader: Dr. Renate Knobloch-Maas

Dr. Renate Knobloch-Maas started to learn about Tolkien's Elven writing system during high school in the middle of the 90s, in order to be able to actually read the examples in Tolkien's books. She joined the RingCon family in 2002 for the very first RingCon, and has been to all RingCons and HobbitCons since. Although she likes fantasy books and series by many authors, J.R.R. Tolkien's works and related books play an important role and occupy an entire bookshelf in her library.

She still occasionally writes office notes in Tengwar, especially if they are not intended for everyone's eyes.
