How do I protect my creative achievements?
You write, draw, put down great ideas on paper. You’ve spent months and months fine-tuning your work and want to offer it to a publisher or present it on the Internet, but you’re concerned about giving away your ideas, which you’ve been keeping well.
Can others copy or imitate your works without your permission? What can you do and how can you prevent it?
In this workshop, you will learn about the rights to your works and how you can secure and protect your creative achievements.
Contents will be among others:
- Creation of copyright and trademark rights, in particular title of work rights
- Protection by application for registration of trademarks at the DPMA and by filing an application for registration of trademarks with the DPMA
- NDAs and competition law protection against counterfeiting
- Practical experience with regard to cost/benefit/requirement of the listed possibilities

Gregor Theado is a lawyer in the law firm BTK Rechtsanwälte from Saarbrücken and operator of the platform Urheberarchiv (Copyright Archive). With his focus on the creative industries, he advises many artists, musicians, labels and publishers and can look back on several years of practical experience.
He has been active as a guitarist and meanwhile singer for more than 17 years and is involved in numerous cultural projects (e. g. in PopRat e. V. and as co-organizer of SaarCon, the largest convention for board games in Saarland) as well as a game author of various board games. At conventions, he regularly holds workshops and lectures on the subject of fantasy and law, including FanArt, FanFiction, trademark and copyright law.
