MagicCon 6 | Workshop | Cosplay Nähen für Anfänger | Mel Grebing

After the surprising turnout for MagicCon 5 last year, I’m offering an improved version of my workshop.

The goal is again to take away the fear of sewing. You don’t have to know how to sew perfectly to put together a decent cosplay. (See my costumes) I believe anyone can sew. And usually all it takes is a little push and a little help to master your own costumes.

In the workshop, I’ll cover topics such as:

  • Sewing by hand or by machine?
  • What does the sewing machine need to be able to do?
  • Which fabrics are suitable for cosplays?
  • Buying patterns or making them yourself?
  • The importance of more appearance than reality.

I have fabric samples and a sewing machine with me, both may be touched. I will compare the sewing process of a costume and the problems and solutions that arise. Because sewing the same costume twice are two completely different challenges.

Workshop leader: Mel Grebing
Max. attendance: 30  -  Pre-registration at: Anmeldung direkt vor Ort
Fee: Free  -  Duration: 90 min
The Workshop will be held in: german  -  Material to be brought: Questions, ideas, sewing problems
Mel Grebing is non-binary, over 40, works full time in human resources and has been sewing her own costumes since 2019. In 2019 sier started sewing costumes without any previous knowledge. The pants from the first costume (Arihnda Pryce) was still started with the help of a friend but already from the tunic was sewn on his own, including adapting the pattern.

With Jaskier from The Witcher series, the costumes became more sophisticated and so did the necessary patterns. The current masterpiece is a Stede Bonnet from Our Flag Means Death with hand-blackened braid, over 30 buttons and 15cm cuffs.
