MagicCon 6 | Workshop | Dungeons & Dragons Charaktererstellung | Loki Maring

Are you new to Dungeons & Dragons? Friends just invited you to your first round? A local game store offers a DnD or roleplaying evening? Or you are still looking for a group, but already want to have a character? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Especially for beginners, character creation can be confusing. That’s why I’ll explain the difference between classes and backgrounds, stats and skills, and what a proficiency bonus is.

We’ll start with a little overview of classes, races and backgrounds. After that we will talk about how we can implement your ideas in DnD. We’ll also take a look at skills and proficiencies. We’ll continue with numbers. I’ll explain the different ways to get your skill values. Yes, unfortunately you can’t get by without math in Dungeons and Dragons. Finally, we’ll touch on the topic of spells and skills and what specifics there class groups have.

Along the way, I’ll talk about common mistakes and problems when creating a character, but also about great or silly character ideas.

Workshop leader: Loki Maring

Loki Maring has been playing pen&paper roleplaying games for about 5 years. His first steps were as a player, but he quickly started to lead games himself. First he was a game master for an international group playing online. Meanwhile he leads a pirate campaign in the Dungeons & Dragons system. This group meets once a month at his home - if nothing comes up. He is also slowly building a collection with other systems. These include Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Avatar Legends and Vaesen.

Away from Pen&Paper, Loki is involved in advocating for the rights of queer people and otherwise marginalized groups. If there is any free time left between DnD games and political outreach, he is still a passionate knitter and drawer. He also talks a lot about pop culture and fandoms with his friends.
