was born on 23 July 1969 in Lübeck. After graduating from high school, he studied film, theatre and philosophy in Bochum for a few semesters and then worked as a trainee at a daily newspaper. Meanwhile he wrote his first novel, which was published by Lübbe Verlag in 1993; further books followed during his time as an editor. He has been a full-time writer since 1995 and has published over fifty novels to date. He has also published several screenplays, radio plays and comics. He lives in the Rhineland between Cologne and Eifel.
His breakthrough came in Kai Meyer
1994 with his first fictional novel DIE GEISTERSEHER, followed by the bestseller DIE ALCHIMISTIN. The MERLE trilogy, starting with DIE FLIESSENDE KÖNIGIN, became his first international success. Further multi-part series like DIE WELLENLÄUFER and DAS WOLKENVOLK followed. The three ARKADIEN novels and DIE SEITEN DER WELT books were also on the Spiegel bestseller list for several weeks.
The worldwide circulation of his novels amounts to several million copies. Translations are published in over thirty languages; there are editions in the USA, England, Japan, Italy, France, Spain and Russia.
