MagicCon 9 | Graham McTavish

Graham McTavish became known to a wide audience primarily through his powerful portrayal of Dougal MacKenzie in the series Outlander. With his rough voice, physical presence, and a mixture of charisma and menace, he had a significant impact on the early seasons and quickly became one of the most popular-and at the same time most ambivalent-characters in the series. His portrayal of the Scottish clan leader impressively demonstrated his ability to play complex characters who vacillate between loyalty, power struggles, and passion.
McTavish wrote another major chapter in his career in the Lord of the Rings universe. In Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, he played the dwarf Dwalin, a battle-hardened warrior with a striking appearance who loyally stands by Thorin Oakenshield. McTavish can also be heard as a voice actor in several Middle-earth video games, further cementing his close connection to Tolkien’s world and establishing him permanently among fantasy fans.
Beyond these two universes, Graham McTavish can look back on a versatile career. Born in Scotland, the actor has worked regularly in film, television, and as a voice actor, including in series such as Preacher and animated formats such as Castlevania, in which he received great acclaim as the voice of Dracula. Whether in historical dramas, epic fantasy or dark animation, McTavish has established himself over the years as a reliable character actor with high recognition value, who shines especially when his roles have rough edges and a certain dark depth.
