Richard Rankin

Richard Rankin was born in Glasgow-he actually wanted to go into IT, but a spontaneous trip to Los Angeles changed everything: acting instead of software! Since then, he has earned himself a permanent place on screen, from the Scottish comedy series Burnistoun to international productions.

Rankin celebrated his big breakthrough as Roger Wakefield MacKenzie in Outlander. The charming historian with a strong moral compass, who travels through time, love, and pain, quickly became a fan favorite. With great sensitivity, Rankin brings Roger’s doubts, strength, and heart to life – and ensures that we empathize with him, laugh with him, and sometimes just shake our heads.

In addition to Outlander, he has appeared in The Crimson Field, Thirteen, From Darkness, and The Syndicate, among others. He is currently in front of the camera as Inspector John Rebus in a new edition of the cult crime series – a role change from time traveler to investigator that suits him perfectly.
