MagicCon 4 | Workshop | Abformen eines Rüstungsteils | by Hydra Forge

Moulding of an armor part

Who doesn’t know it? You need several identical armor parts/accessories or you want to provide them with special material properties (e.g. metallic shine, hard but somewhat flexible, soft, transparent etc.). Or you want to be able to reproduce the painstakingly produced masterpiece if a part breaks down. With silicone moulds of all kinds you can fulfil the above mentioned requirements and even more.

MagicCon 4 | Workshop | Abformen eines Rüstungsteils | by Hydra Forge

In this workshop, the Hydra Forge team will show you how to mould armor parts with silicone and then cast them with resin and metal powder to create realistic replicas that can be polished. The know-how gained is transferable to a variety of applications and other types of moulds are discussed.

All participants receive the same armor part and create the mold step by step under our guidance and demonstration. At the end the participants are allowed to take their moulds and castings with them.

Questions about own projects and ideas will be answered and discussed in an open round.

The workshop Moulding of an armor part on MagicCon 7 is led by 2-3 lecturers and includes a presentation, the imparting of theoretical knowledge about mould making and material as well as the practical production of the mould.

Hydra Forge, a team of costume and prop builders, looks back on 10 years of experience in costume design and conventions. After many completed large and small projects we would like to pass on our acquired knowledge and offer help to interested people to master complex applications.

We work with many different materials, but since the beginning we have been working with silicones for impressions and later pouring them out.

One of our main tasks is:
- Design and implementation of costumes/props
- Conception and implementation of decorative constructions such as photo points or stage decorations
- Organisation and realisation of costume competitions
- Workshops

If you have further questions or are interested in references, we are always available via email.
