In conversation with the authors Judith C. Vogt and Christian Vogt

Historical fantasy are often what-if stories that take place in the past and pick up on interesting events or settings there. In addition to changing the course of history, they infuse a touch of fantasy into the real world, turning a (to some) dull schoolbook theme into an exciting new world.

Judith and Christian Vogt have been writing fantasy novels and role-playing games together for many years. In an interview with their editor Kathrin Dodenhoeft, they talk about how an idea becomes a book and what particularly appeals to them about the historical fantasy genre.

Their most recent novel, “Schildmaid,” was published by Piper Verlag and is set in medieval Scandinavia, where Norse myths are real.

Christian Vogt, Jahrgang 1979 und promovierter Physiker, kombinierte seine Vorliebe für Naturwissenschaft und Schriftstellerei in Steampunk- und Science-Fiction-Welten. Gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Judith veröffentlichte er zehn Romane. Außerdem hat er als Spieldesigner mehrere Erzählspiele veröffentlicht.

Judith Vogt (geb. 1981) brennt für die drei großen F: Fantastik, Fechten, Feminismus. Manchmal allein, manchmal mit Co-Autor Christian Vogt schreibt sie Fantasy- und Science-Fiction-Romane, mit Lena Richter podcastet sie beim »Genderswapped Podcast« zu feministischen Themen im Pen-&-Paper-Rollenspiel. Sie übersetzt, lektoriert und schreibt Rollenspiele und journalistische Texte (zum Beispiel auf TOR-Online). Sie ist Mit-Herausgeberin von »Roll Inclusive«, einem Essayband zu Repräsentation im Rollenspiel, und von »Queer*Welten«, dem ersten deutschsprachigen queerfeministischen SFF-Magazin.

Für ihre Werke wurde das Paar zweimal mit dem Deutschen Phantastik Preis und einmal mit dem Deutschen Rollenspielpreis ausgezeichnet. Christian und Judith Vogt leben in Aachen.
